Leaving the flat and walking for 7 hours a day is the best way to see the city.  Tiring, yes, but worth it.  To see the sites and attractions is amazing, and necessary, but to make a wrong turn and meander down a tiny side street and discover a lovely bakery, toy shop, or boutique, is the only way to meet Paris on more intimate terms.
